At the Federal University of Technology Owerri, the Environmental, Composite, and Optimization Research Group is dedicated to developing sustainable materials and innovative engineering processes that address pressing issues in the environment, public health, and energy sectors.
The group is headed by Dr. Chigoziri Njoku, and is affiliated with the Africa Centre of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACEFUELS), at the Federal University of Technology Owerri.
Concepts

Composite phase change materials (CPCMs) using electrospinning, extrusion, and solution mixing for thermal energy storage applications.

Illustration of structural configurations for graphene-based anode materials in lithium-ion batteries.

The synthesis and properties of composite phase change materials (PCMs), hydrogels, aerogels, and films, with applications in energy storage, and thermal regulation.

Our team
The ECO group brings together a diverse team of students, researchers, and volunteers who are united by the conviction that modern chemical challenges demand integrated solutions. We have over 20 members, from senior undergraduates and Master’s candidates and lab technicians to PhD scholars and postgraduates, with backgrounds in chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemistry, materials science, environmental science, and data science. Our alumni are already breaking new ground in their careers, with some pursuing their PhD in the Chemical Engineering Department at FSU, while others have been awarded prestigious opportunities like the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Sustainable Biomass and Bioproducts Engineering.
Join us: We welcome applications from talented researchers.
